Magnifying the Lord ~ A Study in the Word
September 1, 2007
This week’s word study
contributed by:
Kevin Sparkman
Looking
at 2 Corinthians 5:17
2 Corinthians 5:17:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is
a new creature:
old things are passed away; behold all things
are become new.
In ~ Greek: en (en) fixed position in place,
time, or state.
New ~ Greek: kainos (kahee-nos)
of uncertain affinity; new (especially in freshness).
Creature ~ Greek: ktisis (ktis-is) formation,
building, creation, ordinance.
Things ~ Greek: archaios (ar-khan-yos) original or
primeval.
Become ~ Greek: ginomai (ghin-om-ahee) to cause to
be, to become, come into being, to cause to generate.
Thought to consider:
Our position is fixed in Christ; nothing can take us from it.
We can do absolutely nothing to add to or to pad our position with
Christ.
We are seated with Him in heavenly places. We can choose to rebel
and walk away from Him, and then we find He will pursue us or be waiting
for us with open arms as He watches and waits for us to turn and come
back to the One that loves and cares for us.
Because we are in Christ, we are totally new - with a new shape forming
- a new bent, with a new script to learn and know, to live. A new
life totally replacing the old man and that old script that we have
always lived by dying away forever.
If you are like me, you may often see so much of your old fallen nature
still at work within your mortal body that you begin to question if
you are truly in Christ. But we live by faith now and with comfort,
encouragement and even exhortation, we must take up the word, again
- or maybe for the first time today - and let it fill you and overflow
with the vision of who you are now -- IN CHRIST -- A NEW CREATURE!
Right NOW - breathing!
Let this truth be alive within and remind you daily, take it to the
heart. For we are in the process of becoming like Christ. It is a
life long work in process at this very moment. A process to reprogram
and undo the damage the old fallen nature had always lived in and
to become the image and likeness of Christ more each day.
Vine3 is sharing and encouraging us to remember that God takes great
delight in the whole process of our growth and is ever encouraging
the next step, even as we have done for our children. Can you hear
Him saying, " I know you can do this - and I am here to help you be
all I have in mind for you to be!"
We are His beloved children, adopted into His family - and a delight
to His heart.
I want to leave you with one of the greatest promises in the bible:
Philipians 1:6 says we being confident of this, that he who began
a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of
Christ Jesus.
The work He started in you and me He will finish, right up to the
day of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
